[Event Report] The 13th Session of Health Policy Academy, Lecture 7 — The Healthcare and Long-Term Care Service Systems— (December 12, 2024)

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) held the 7th lecture of the 13th session of Health Policy Academy (HPA), “Citizenship and Health Policy”.

In the 7th lecture, Mr. Gaku Mihara (Senior Researcher, NLI Research Institute) gave a lecture on the theme of “Healthcare and Long-Term Care Service Systems.” He provided an overview of the characteristics of healthcare and long-term care service systems, the medical strategies formulated by prefectures, and the Regional Medical Care Visions. In addition, the lecture provided insights into how the role of prefectures and municipalities has become increasingly significant in the current healthcare and long-term care systems, as well as key topics in healthcare policy, such as the organization of hospital bed functions and reforms in physicians’ work styles.

At the 13th Health Policy Academy, participants spend approximately six months exploring how to engage with health policy as citizens. The curriculum is structured in steps, from the basics of policy, through theory and analysis, to practical application. Each lecture will feature instructors who are currently active in their respective fields, and participants from diverse backgrounds will engage in discussion. Through group work aimed at creating policy proposals that serve as the final assignment, the program aims to equip participants with the mindset necessary for the actual policy-making process.
